’50 Shades of Grey’ Movie Cast: Fans Boycott Film; Petition Started to Get Matt Bomer, Alexis Bledel to Play Christian Grey, Anastasia Steele

On Monday "Fifty Shades of Grey" author E.L. James announced the lead roles of the highly buzzed about movie will go to Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam. James revealed the casting news on her Twitter page.

"I am delighted to let you know that the lovely Dakota Johnson has agreed to be our Anastasia in the film adaption of Fifty Shades of Grey," she tweeted.

"The gorgeous and talented Charlie Hunnam will be Christian Grey in the film adaption of Fifty Shades of Grey," she posted minutes later.

Almost immediately fans went nuts. The author as well as executives and producers involved with the movie began receiving tweets about how they had made the wrong choice. Fans have been waiting for almost a year to hear the news of who would be playing Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele and were clearly not happy that none of the fan-favorites were chosen.

Some people are so upset over the decision that a petition was started on change.org to replace Johnson and Hunnam with Alexis Bledel and Matt Bomer, CBS reports.

"Matt Bomer is the PERFECT DESCRIPTION OF CHRISTIAN GREY AND ALEXIS BLEDEL IS THE PERFECT ACTRESS TO REPRESENT ANASTASIA STEELE and of THEY ARE NOW, NOBODY WILL BE And I read the whole trilogy and I can assure that Matt is the perfect actor for this movie and Alexis too. So please PLEASE, all of the GREYsessed and Bomerettes in the world NEED those actors. They always will be for us the Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. WE CAN DO ANYTHING GUYS, ANYTHING," the petition explains using caps to emphasis the point.

The petition now has over 19,000 signatures. Despite all the backlash executives and producers are getting they are standing by their decision and tweeted in defense of their picks.

According to rumors several actors and actresses tried out for the roles of the leading couple including Felicity Jones but she turned it down because of full frontal nudity. Robert Pattinson was also said to be a favorite of James, according to a twee by Bret Easton Ellis. The Hollywood screenwriter didn't reveal why Pattinson wasn't picked as the troubled billionaire but he did tweet that Bomer nor Ian Somerhalder were ever considered for the part of Christian Grey.
