The releases of the other next-gen consoles from Microsoft and Sony, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, are undoubtedly overshadowing the Wii U from Nintendo. Now it seems that developers aren't giving the console the time of day either as the smash hit game Minecraft has seen its developers announce that there are no current plans to port the game over to the Wii U any time soon.
According to Minecraft's game creator Markus "Notch" Persson, the game won't be coming to Nintendo's latest system as quickly as it did to other consoles. Minecraft recently became available on the PlayStation 3. Speaking on Twitter, Notch said: "I am not aware of any plans to release a Wii U version of Minecraft."
Earlier in 2013, Notch explained that Microsoft had a previous exclusivity deal for Minecraft on consoles. Once the terms of that deal had finished, the team got to work on considering a PlayStation edition of the game. Even back then, IGN reports that he said a Wii U port is "very unlikely."
In a follow-up tweet, Notch revealed that the reason the game won't be ported to the Wii U is not because he simply doesn't like Nintendo.
"I agree a Wii U version would make sense, [by the way]. The only reason for no current plans is we've got too much work already. I <3 Nintendo."
IGN notes that the work Mojang, the developer behind Minecraft, is currently doing has to do with the effort going into the upcoming PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and Xbox One versions of the game.
