The annual Consumer Electronics Show is always a big deal for the tech industry. It's a place for people to showcase their important new discoveries and let the public know what road their team of developers will be walking for the rest of the year. While E3 is the typical annual conference for gaming-specific technology, that doesn't mean gamers have nothing to look forward to at this year's CES 2014.
CES will take place from January 7 until January 10 in Las Vegas. It attracts more than 150,000 attendees and over 3,200 exhibitors. According to IGN, CES can be a launchpad for new gaming hardware, PCs, monitors and displays and sound systems that you can game on.
Among the first things gamers can look forward to at CES 2014 is the Steam Machine console from Valve. The company will be hosting a special event on Monday, Jan. 6 at 5 p.m. PT to introduce the first range of Steam Machines from its hardware partners. This will be the first extended look at the Steam Machine and Steam OS. The console is meant to take the PC gaming experience that Valve has made so popular and bring it to the console setting. If you're not an Xbox or PlayStation gamer but want to try the console experience with your favorite PC games, you might want to pay attention.
Sony is another major company that will be unveiling some new innovations as well. In the past it has used the CES to unveils products like the Xperia Z, the first OLED 4K TV, Sony's 3D head-mounted display and the first PS3 games running in 3D, according to IGN.
This year it's likely that the company will debut new features to the newly released PlayStation 4. There's also questions about the PS Vita TV and PS Vita Slim. In addition, since CES is a place to show off bold new technology, rumors have been circulating that Sony ahs been working on a virtual reality headset to rival that of the Oculus Rift. Speaking of the Rift, you'll see more news about that in a hands-on capacity. Oculus will be joined by Razer, Origin PC, Samsung and many more.
Finally, it seems 4K Ultra HD is sure to be a hot topic at this year's show. Samsung, LG, Sony, Vizio and others are all expected to reveal new 4K displays at this year's show. In addition, YouTube is rumored to be gearing up to get people ready for 4K video displays.
