Sisters Of Iowa State Representative Mary Wolfe Shot Dead In Home

Two sisters of Iowa state representative Mary Wolfe were found shot dead in the basement of their home in Pittsburgh on Friday after they did not show up for work, according to the Associated Press.

Cause of death has not been released by the medical examiner's office but police say it appears the women had been shot, according to the AP.

Susan Wolfe, 44, and Sarah Wolfe, 38, were found shot dead in their basement on Friday afternoon in their, authorities said, the AP reported.

The two sisters shared the Pittsburg home in an area neighbors describe as quiet and safe, according to the AP.

Police are still investigating the case as a double homicide and have said the two women died of apparent gun shot wounds, the AP reported.

On Mary Wolfe's website, she says she is the oldest of eight children, six girls and two boys, according to the AP. Rep. Wolfe posted a message on her Facebook page thanking everyone for their condolences.

"We are so grateful," Rep. Wolfe wrote, according to the AP. "Heartbroken, but grateful."

Sarah Wolfe's car was found almost a mile away on Saturday around 1:15 a.m., the AP reported.

Sarah Wolfe worked at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic as a psychiatrist, and Susan Wolfe was a teacher's aide at Hillel Academy in Pittsburgh's Squirrel Hill neighborhood, according to the AP.

Pittsburgh police Lt. Daniel Herrmann said they don't have a motive for the killings, and there were no signs of forced entry, the AP reported.

Most of the sisters family lives in Iowa and said they're still trying to figure out what happened, according to the AP.

Dr. Claudia M. Roth, CEO of Western Psychiatric, said in a statement that she mourned the loss of both lives and said Sarah "was known as a very compassionate, warm, caring and bright physician who was praised by patients, families, staff and colleagues," the AP reported.
