The former FBI supervisory agent in command of the criminal investigation into first son Hunter Biden confirmed crucial details of an alleged cover-up described by IRS supervisory agent Gary Shapley on Monday.

Hunter Biden, the son of former President Joe Biden, has retained Abbe Lowell, a prominent Washington attorney, in anticipation of a probe by House Republicans.

Previously, Lowell represented Jared Kushner, the former White House senior adviser, through investigations into Trump-Moscow relations, Russian election meddling, and in Congress.

Hunter Biden Investigation

The Department of Justice has initiated an investigation into Hunter Biden's tax returns. According to NBC News, his tax payment method over the previous few years has resulted in a lawsuit being filed against him.

Abbe Lowell will oversee Biden's responses to anticipated congressional questions and supervise his overall legal strategy. Kevin Morris, a member of Biden's legal team, stated that Abbe has successfully represented countless public administrators and powerful persons in several trials. However, Lowell has denied commenting on the same.

Lowell of Winston and Strawn will work closely with Chris Clark of Lathams and Watkins. Clark, who represents Biden in tax-related investigations by the US attorney's office in Delaware, is a rising component of Biden's team of attorneys and advisors.

However, the addition of Lowell to the team is meant to improve Hunter Biden's position in the Republican investigations. He has represented various politicians, including President Bill Clinton, former North California Senator John Edwards, and New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez, throughout the past decade.

The chairman of the House Oversight Committee, James Comer, announced in early November that the Biden family was their major target. In addition, he emphasized that the family's business must not compromise national security, as per WIO News.

The White House, however, responded to the Republican inquiry as "politically motivated." The 'laptop controversy' involving Hunter Biden made headlines a few days ago. A computer retailer in Delaware allegedly uncovered Hunter's private information and shared it with the FBI, the Republican Party, and the media.

Hunter Biden has consistently denied any involvement in illegal activity. In 2021, he disclosed their assistance with the federal investigation in Delaware during a press conference.

He added that a satisfactory outcome is anticipated for him. The White House described the political attacks on the President and his family as "nonsense conspiracy theories." Lowell allegedly represented Kushner not just against congressional interrogation, but also in Robert Mueller's Russia connection investigation.

His qualifications also include representing incumbent Senator Bob Menendez during the corruption trial of the New Jersey Democrat, which resulted in a mistrial.

Hunter Biden Foreign Deals

It comes nearly a month after House Republicans headed by the ranking member of the Oversight Committee Rep. James Comer and ranking member of the Judiciary Committee Rep. Jim Jordan had a news conference in which they made it plain that Hunter will be a high focus for them in the next year.

They also accused Hunter Biden of being compromised by his son's international activities.
Comer stated, "This is an inquiry of Joe Biden. We have demonstrated why we believe it is vital, and we will now move forward with that."

Later, he stated, "We're trying to keep our attention on whether Joe Biden was personally involved with Hunter Biden's business transactions and whether he's compromised."

Per Daily Mail, Comer stated that he would prefer members of the Biden family to appear before the House if requested, but that the primary objective of their investigation at the moment is to get bank data.
