David Choe's 'Beef' co-stars Steven Yeun and Ali Wong react to his rape remarks in 2014, which resurfaced recently, facing backlash online, leading some folks to boycott the hit Netflix dramedy or drama comedy.
The Beef stars Wong and Yeun, also the executive producers of the popular Netflix show, issued their joint statement, along with the creator of 'Beef,' Lee Sung Jin. The co-stars of Choe denounce the distasteful remarks of the actor and artist.
David Choe's 'Extremely Disturbing' Rape Story
When the rape story of Choe resurfaced on the internet, his 'Beef' co-stars were initially silent. But this time, some of them have spoken out. According to Page Six, it took his Beef executive producers, Yeun and Wong, as well as the show creator Jin, less than a week before breaking their silence on the widespread issue.
In the resurfaced video, Choe told what he claims to be a fabricated story of raping a massage therapist. His co-stars slam his "disturbing remarks" in a joint statement they sent to Vanity Fair.
The statement of his colleagues at the hit Netflix series slammed his "fabricated" rape story, calling it "extremely disturbing" and "undeniably hurtful." Furthermore, they say they "do not condone" the story Choe made in his now-defunct podcast, DVDASA or "Double Vag, Double Anal, Sensitive Artist."
Yeun, Wong, and Jin also offered they "understand why this has been so upsetting and triggering."
Choe's Beef Co-Stars Reveal He Has Since 'Put in the Work'
Despite condemning the rape story, they noted that their Beef co-actor, who stars an ex-convict, Isaac Cho, has "apologized in the past for making up this horrific story."
His colleagues also disclosed that they saw how Choe "put in the work to get the mental health support he needed" in the past couple of years." They say that this has helped the actor/artist improve himself over the years. On top of that, he has also pushed the Beef lead star to eventually learned from his previous awful actions.
Choe previously narrated a sexually explicit encounter with a masseuse, wherein he forced a girl he called "Rose" to touch his genitals. In the 2014 defunct podcast, he said he is "a successful rapist."
But then, according to People, he addressed the issue in the same year. The actor says, "If I am guilty of anything, it's bad storytelling in the style of douche." He further claimed that he is not a rapist, contrary to what he said in the podcast, adding that he hates them.
