A doctor "ripped" a baby's head off during childbirth in Brazil as his father watched along, the child's dad told the police.
The shocking events reportedly happened last May 1 at a hospital in Brazil. Now, the investigators are looking into the startling allegations of the child's family against the doctor.
Doctor 'Rips' Baby's Head Off During Childbirth
According to The New York Post, a doctor in Brazil allegedly pulled off a baby's head during childbirth at the Hospital das Clínicas da UFMG, which sits on the Santa Efigênia of Belo Horizonte.
The 33-year-old mother of the baby, Ranielly Coelho Santos, went to the hospital last April 28 for her upcoming childbirth. The doctor, an obstetrician, reportedly asked the father of her infant to join them to observe her labor.
The child's father told the Brazil police that the doctor tried putting pressure on Santos' belly. From there, the doctor reportedly attempted to get the baby's body as quickly as possible. However, the dad observing the childbirth recalled that the doctor had "ripped off the child's head" while doing so.
Mirror UK reports that the father narrates that he still saw this baby's eyes blinking and mouth moving, suggesting that she was still alive then. It is worth noting that the identity of the doctor remains undisclosed.
The devastating death of the baby has been the talk of the town since the family filed a complaint to the authorities, alleging that the doctor had pulled off their child's head. The family disclosed to the police that staff at the hospital assured them that the medical facility would pay for the burial expenses of their demise child.
Parents Say They Were Asked to Sign a Waiver
But there is a catch: they say the compensation requires them to sign a waiver. It allegedly states that they agree that the child's body "has already been examined" and "the autopsy had already been performed at the hospital." The paperwork also tells them that "the body would not be forwarded to the Legal Medical Institute (ILM)."
The family lawyer, Jennifer Valente, says the parents did not sign the waiver, per Daily Mail Online UK. Besides refusing to sign the waiver, the family filed a complaint to the local police in Brazil.
The hospital responded to the incident in a statement to a local news outlet, saying they "deeply regretted" the incident. And with that, the medical institution assures that they will do their best to investigate the tragic childbirth as they wait for the autopsy report.
