The GOP announced a list of eight cities that made the cut so far in becoming the host of their 2016 convention, POLITICO reported.
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus used his Twitter account to formally announce the candidates.
"Congratulations to Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Denver, Dallas, Kansas City, Las Vegas and Phoenix for moving on to the next phase," Priebus tweeted.
On Monday, each city will have the chance to argue their case for the convention's location in Washington. By mid-March, the selection committee will decide which cities should get site visits, which will occur sometime in the spring.
According to POLITICO, the winner will likely be announced in the late summer or early fall. In May 2012, the GOP chose Tampa as their site for the convention.
Earlier this year at the RNC's Winter Meeting, Las Vegas, Kansas City, Denver, Phoenix and Columbus set up tables and held receptions in order to get on the committee's good side.
Many people believe Las Vegas will be chosen given it's connection to longtime GOP donor Sheldon Adelson. However, as POLITICO noted, a location notorious for promiscuous nightlife may not be the safest choice for a party that prides itself on "family values."
The Democrats will also begin looking into their list of possible cities too. All interested locations must submit their proposal for the party's 2016 convention by Saturday.
