Marjorie Taylor Greene Among Republicans Targeted of Christmas Swatting Call

Two Republicans became the targets of swatting calls on Christmas Day.

Law enforcement authorities are investigating a swatting call that was made on Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene's home on Christmas Day.

The GOP lawmaker took to social media on Monday morning where she revealed that she was "just swatted." Greene noted that this incident marks the eighth time and added that her family was at her Rome, Georgia, residence on Christmas.

On Monday, 911 dispatch notified officers that they received a call made through the suicide prevention hotline that came from a man who was possibly from Rome, New York. He claimed that he had just shot his girlfriend at Greene's Georgia address.

Rome Police later informed Greene's security team of the phone call as officers traveled to the scene. The law enforcement personnel traveling to the Republican's home were told nothing was wrong. Police information specialist Kelly Madden said officers were turned around before arriving at the house.

In her social media post, Greene said that her local police are the "Greatest" and should not have to deal with a prank. As per CNN, the lawmaker expressed her gratitude and noted that she and her family could continue to celebrate Christmas.

Swatting describes a prank call made to authorities to lure officers to a location, usually a home, where they are led to believe that a crime has been committed or is in progress. The situation would result in a forceful response from local police or SWAT teams, who are unaware that it is a prank.

Another Republican lawmaker, Rep. Brandon Williams said that he was also the victim of a swatting call on Christmas Day. He said that his home was swatted and he was informed of the situation by deputies and troopers who contacted him before arriving at his home.

False Reports to Law Enforcement

In a statement, Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck confirmed that law enforcement personnel responded to a swatting incident at the congressman's house on Monday. He noted that authorities from the sheriff's office and the New York State Police responded just after 2:00 p.m. to a "report of a reported confessed shooting incident" at Williams' home.

The swatting call marks the latest incident that targeted Greene, who has previously been the victim of swatting on multiple occasions, including false reports of shootings at her residence. According to Fox News, the offices of both Republicans did not immediately respond to requests for comments.

Following the incidents, people on social media quickly called for accountability for the ones who were responsible for making the false reports to authorities. One user, Julie Jones, wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying that the cops would most likely know who is doing the pranks and are still letting them get away with it.

Another user, Bobbi Linn Mac, said that someone would be caught making the supposed swatting calls one day. He said that he hopes such criminals would be examples for everyone who thinks such an act is a good idea, said Newsweek.
