Former United States President Donald Trump unveiled his list of potential candidates that could become his running mate for the 2024 election.

The Republican businessman suggested on Tuesday that he has at least half a dozen choices on his vice presidential shortlist. It includes South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, as well as former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard.

Former United States President Donald Trump listed down potential candidates that he could choose from as running mate in the 2024 election, including Tim Scott and Kristi Noem.

During a town hall event hosted by Fox News, Laura Ingraham asked the former president about six potential choices for his vice president. These were DeSantis, Scott, biotech entrepreneur and former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, Florida Rep. Byron Donalds, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, and Gabbard.

She asked Trump if all of the people she listed were on the former president's vice presidential shortlist. In response, the Republican businessman said, "They are" and continued to say, "Honestly all of those people are good. They're all good, they're all solid."

The former president is known to talk off the cuff and it would come as a surprise if he does choose the Florida governor to be his running mate. The two have spent a year savaging each other as they were rivals for the GOP presidential nomination before DeSantis dropped out of the race, as per Politico.

That decision was prompted by a relatively disappointing second-place finish in the Iowa caucuses. However, the Florida governor has since given his endorsement to Trump and the latter has also stopped attacking the former and retired the "DeSanctimonious" nickname that he has been using.

On Tuesday evening, the former president singled out Scott among the people on his vice presidential shortlist for the most praise. The lawmaker, who dropped out of the Republican primary last year and later endorsed Trump, has been campaigning aggressively for the former president in his home state ahead of the South Carolina primary scheduled for Feb. 24.

Preparing for the 2024 Election

Trump gestured to Scott as he said, "A lot of people are talking about that gentleman right over there." The former president said that the Republican has been a great advocate, adding that he has been much better for him than he was for himself.

The situation comes as the former president has had decisive victories in the first two nominating contests and has only one remaining high-profile opponent for the 2024 GOP nomination, according to CBS News.

Earlier this month, Trump said that he is looking for a running mate who is "able to be a good president." The former president said that he has already been talking to a number of people, including Scott and Noem.

In December last year, Trump attended a candle-lit dinner with Mar-a-Lago members where he walked around the table as the conversation turned to his running mate. That was when Rep. Elise Stefanik came up in the conversations.

Stefanik is the hard-charging upstate New York Republican and she had a viral moment prior to the talks where she grilled the university presidents at a congressional hearing about antisemitism on campus, said NBC News.
