OpenAI is Introducing New Version of ChatGPT: Everything to Know

GPT-4o is being released as the new flagship chatbot

ChatGPT-maker OpenAI has announced it is launching a new version of its flagship chatbot called GPT-4o.

It claims GPT-4o is much faster and improves across text and visuals.

A new desktop app for ChatGPT is also being released.

The company also says it is improving the user interface to make the product easier to use.

A livestream conference was held on Monday afternoon to demo the updates to ChatGPT and GPT-4.

Mira Murati, OpenAI's Chief Technology Officer, went over the new features, including Vision. Users can upload documents and even math problems and start conversations about the content with the chatbot.

Engineers demonstrated holding real-time conversations with GPT4o. The new version allows a human to interrupt the chatbot, like a traditional conversation, instead of waiting for it to finish an answer.

It is real-time with its responses and it picks up on emotion in speech and breath.

"GPT-4o presents new challenges for us when it comes to safety because we're dealing with real-time audio, real-time vision," Murati admits.

The chatbot will also analyze data and create charts, Murati says.

ChatGPT has also increased support to 50 languages.

The free version of the product will now include memory. Paid users will have up to five times the capacity of free users.

The online tool is able to produce humanlike written content and software code.

OpenAI is under pressure to expand the user base of ChatGPT, Reuters reported.

Last month, OpenAI announced it will allow users to access its free-to-use ChatGPT chatbot without signing up for the service.

ChatGPT was first released in November 2022 and has since evolved from a tech demo to a feature-rich AI assistant.

OpenAI was founded by Sam Altman as a non-profit organization.
