A male suspect was arrested for opening fire at Kent State University on Wednesday night, forcing the school into a lockdown, WCPO-TV reported.
The gunman fired a shot around 8 p.m. near Bowman Hall, one of the academic buildings on campus. No injuries were reported.
The name of the suspect has not been released. According to campus authorities, he was taken into custody and transported to Robinson Memorial Hospital for unspecified reasons.
School officials used their Twitter account to notify students that the suspect was arrested and no longer posed a threat to the campus.
"Kent State University - Campus Safety Update; Suspect Apprehended," the tweet read, accompanied by a link to a press release.
The press release mentioned university police and 10 outside police agencies responded to the shooting and determined the gunshot was fired into the ground.
"The university plans to hold a morning press conference on April 3. An advisory will be sent Thursday morning," the release said.
Kent State University, located in Kent, Ohio with a student population of 42,000, was the scene of deadly shootings by the Ohio National Guard during a Vietnam War protest in 1970.
Four students died and nine others were injured in the shooting, and the guardsmen were taken to court but later acquitted by a judge.
