Starbucks Fizzio Soda Hits Market, Adding Flavor to a New Menu of Handcrafted Beverages

Starbucks' new Fizzio handcrafted sodas and Teavana Shaken Iced Teas will spice up the coffee chain's beverage menu when unveiled Tuesday.

Each of the new 100-calorie Starbucks twist flavors - spiced root beer, golden ginger ale, and lemon - are made with a 50-cent fizz ingredient via an in-store Fizzio Machine, which adds flavor to the beverages while simultaneously replacing artificial ingredients, preservatives, and high fructose syrup usually included in the ingredients list.

"We have heard from our customers that they're looking for more refreshing, cold beverages, especially during the warm summer months," said Cliff Burrows, Starbucks and Teavana Teas group president. "Fizzio Handcrafted Soda is unlike any soda in the marketplace because it's handcrafted and made-to-order each time. The addition of Fizzio and Teavana Iced Teas gives our customers more refreshing beverage choices made with premium ingredients they expect from Starbucks."

The spiced root beer flavor features classic root beer, cinnamon, nutmeg, clover, and notes of star anise. Meanwhile, ginger, citrus and brown sugar gives the Golden Ginger Ale a taste common to the beverage's purest flavors. Three lemon juices, apricot and ginger make up the third Lemon Ale flavor.

"Refreshing beverages made with premium ingredients deserve to be paired with exceptional food, which is why we're offering an array of wholesome options for our customers," added Burrows. "We have significantly advanced our breakfast and lunch offerings over the past few years. And, we are expanding this even further with new, relevant lunch options for our customers."

Starbucks' sister company Teavana is coming out with its own line of new products, including the Shaken Iced Blackberry Mojito lemonade and the Shaken Iced Peach Green Tea Lemonade.
