Nurse Pleads Guilty to Killing 11 Elderly People; 'It Was Satan Telling Me To Do It'

A Sydney nurse has pleaded guilty in the case of starting a fire that killed 11 elderly men and women according toThe Independant.

Roger Dean initially denied his involvement in the case and even went as far as painting himself as a hero.

"I just quickly did what I could to get everyone out," he said to local reporters. Dean reportedly claimed the fire made him question his faith in God.

Monday the very face painted on television screens worldwide admitted that he was not a hero who risked his life to save others, but the culprit who lead the defenseless to their doom. Three people immediately died in the blaze and eight others later died from "severe burns and smoke inhalation."

Amongst the deceased was 85-year-old Dorothy Wu, 80-year-old Dorothy Sterling, and 90-year-old Neeltje Valkay.

"I saw her six days a week. I still do the wrong left-handed turn to go home and go past the nursing home," said Elly Valkay, Neeltje's daughter. "There has been upheaval in our family because we miss her so much. There have been nights of no sleep, nights of taking a sleeping pill to get the night mares out."

Families and friends of the deceased gathered together at the New South Wales Supreme Court to witness Dean, 37, plead guilty to all charges. According to The Independant, Dean also admitted to stealing pain killers from the nursing home and causing "grievous bodily harm to eight other residents of the nursing home."

When arrested, Dean claims that "it was Satan telling me to do it."

Workers of the Sydney nursing home can find relief in Dean's guilty plea. According to Gary Barnier, managing director, employees were riddled with guilt because they were unsuccessful in their attempt to save their patients.

Dean is currently in custody awaiting his sentencing. He faces life in jail.
