A 15-year-old Utah girl was tragically killed when her sister ran her over as she was sunbathing in her driveway.
Marli Hamblin was in the driveway of her Syracuse, Utah, home soaking up the sun and listening to music on her iPod when a Chevrolet truck backed up out of the garage, KUTV reported.
The driver, Hamblin's sister, told Syracuse police she did not see her sibling when she accidentally ran her over on Friday.
"It's not an easy case for everybody involved- the officers, firemen, the paramedics," Syracuse Police spokeswoman Erin Behm told KUTV. "You can imagine, it was tragic."
Hamblin was rushed to a local hospital where she was treated for a severe head injury. But she died on Sunday, her family announced on a tribute Facebook page titled "Miracle for Marli."
"Our precious Marli is home with her heavenly father," the family said according to the Chicago Tribune. "Please continue prayers of comfort for this family during this time."
Police said Hamblin most likely did not realize the truck was approaching. Her death was ruled accidental and no charges were filed against her sister, Behm told the newspaper.
Hamblin, the third born out of five siblings, was preparing to enter Syracuse High School and had just made the school's cheerleading team, her family said.
"There are just no words that can describe it or explain it at this point," Lance Hamblin, the victim's cousin, told KUTV.
Ron Hamblin, Marli's grandfather, said her sister is traumatized but the family is trying to pull through.
"We've been very fortunate over the years not to have any tragic problems, and this was the first," he said according to the Tribune.
