It seems that Jessica Drew a.k.a. Spider-Woman will be getting a makeover. And I must say that she looks pretty damn fine, in my humble opinion.

USA Today is reporting that Spider-Woman will have a new costume that she will debut in the new "Spider-Man Unlimited" mobile game. The character will also implement her new duds in her comic book beginning in March. You can check out the design, by Marvel artist Kris Anka, below:

Jessica Drew has dropped the spandex for more functional pants, jacket, and gloves, plus a pair of glasses that can expand into a mask when she needs them to. In an interview with USA Today, "Spider-Woman" writer Dennis Hopeless said he is taking the character away from the crazy, larger-than-life conflicts she's been caught up in recently, and bringing her back to her street-level roots . The powers that be obviously wanted her in a costume that signaled this big change.

The redesign was called for by Marvel editor Nick Lowe, who explained that "Spider-Man isn't really a detective - he swings around looking for trouble, whereas Jess needs to go and figure stuff out and dig things up, and you can't really do that head to toe in spandex very well. To operate on the level she wants to, she needs something that can pass for semi-normal and she can turn it on to crazy if she needs to."

Comic readers will actually be able to see the costume on Ms. Drew starting with "Spider-Woman" #5 by Hopeless and artist Javier Rodriguez, which also launches a new arc story for the heroine.

There was a bit of a controversy back in August with Spider-Woman, her costume, and the oddly sexual pose artist Milo Manara drew her in for the cover of "Spider-Woman" #1. I'd be curious to know if the hullabaloo that kicked up had anything to do with this costume change, or if it was in the works previous to that? Since the issue had more to do with the pose rather than her actual costume, I'll give Marvel the benefit of the doubt on this one. But still, I can't help but wonder...
