Anchorman 2 Trailer Release Date: New Movie Will Put Ron and the Gang in a 24-Hour News Cycle in New York City

America's favorite newsman is back along with his friends in the Action 4 news team. Will Ferrell is back as the well dressed face of the news Ron Burgundy in the sequel to the cult hit "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues," which released its first trailer, complete with plot points, on Wednesday.

The trailer, which can be seen below, shows Burgundy reassembling his news team to help him handle the pressures and challenges of working in a 24-hour news cycle for a cable news network in New York City, very far away from his home in San Diego where he is the city's most beloved news anchor.

Rejoined by the full cast, including Paul Rudd as Brian Fantana, Steve Carell as slow-witted Brick Tamland, David Koechner as Champ Kind and Christina Applegate as Veronica Corningstone, Burgundy will be exiting the 1970s motif the first movie was so famous for and will now take on the wild 1980s.

The film is set for a December 20 release date. Ferrell and company had been working for a while to try and get the timing and script right for a sequel to the popular 2004 film. In March of last year, Ferrell made the announcement, in his very specific style, by dressing up as the famous character and walking onto the set of "Conan" on TBS while pretending to play the jazz flute. Since he made the announcement on "Conan," details of the plot as well as footage have been kept tightly under wraps with nothing but speculation and rumor being the currency of news for the production.

Wednesday's trailer release finally gives fans a taste of the long anticipated sequel. It appears this time around Burgundy will be dealing with stiff competition in the form of Jack Blime, a new pretty boy in the news world played by James Marsden, as well as encountering the race issue of the 1980s by befriending, and possibly dating an African American woman. The trailer doesn't hint as to what a new love interest for Ron means for his relationship with Veronica Corningstone.

Below is the trailer for the sequel as well as Ferrell's announcement on "Conan."
