One rumor from J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" that continues to crop up is that the film will feature the franchise's first ever flashback scene. Supporting that theory was an alleged cast list that included a character listed as "Young Luke Skywalker." Over the last several months, a description of a possible flashback scene made the rounds and fans believed Carrie Fisher's daughter, Billie Lourd, had been added to the cast to portray a young Princess Leia.
However, Lourd recently stated that she is not playing a younger version of her mother's iconic character.
"That's a lie. That's a rumor. I wish I played a young princess," she said to Entertainment Tonight.
Now this isn't a guaranteed confirmation. After all, how many times did we hear that Benedict Cumberbatch wasn't playing Khan in Abramas' most recent film, "Star Trek Into Darkness". But given that the film is focusing mostly on the new generation of characters, it's probably the truth. Abrams hopes to introduce a new crop of heroes in Finn (John Boyega), Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) that will push the franchise forward. Even if there truly is a flashback sequence, it will likely be focused solely on Luke.
So if Lourd isn't dawning the infamous side hair buns, who will she be portraying in "The Force Awakens"?
"I can't talk to you about the character, or the lack of character. I didn't even say that. That was too much."
You sly dog, you.
It seems probable that Lourd's character doesn't receive significant screen time in the film. There have been two teaser trailers thus far and Lourd, as well as Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong'o and Domhnall Gleeson's characters have yet to be featured.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will hit theaters on December 18.
