While Oculus' Rift virtual headset has been at developer's conferences, it wasn't clear how well it would do on the market. Now, some new information will make predictions a lot easier.

Earlier this month, Oculus announced that the recently redesigned Rift headset would be available for purchase during 2016's first quarter. However, Oculus did not share the price range of the device, or what it would entail.

But all that has changed. Oculus CEO Brenden Iribe revealed during his appearance at Re/Code's Conference that the Oculus Rift will cost somewhere in the $1500 range.

"We are looking at an all-in price," Iribe explained. "If you have to go out and actually need to buy a new computer and you're going to buy the Rift ... at most you should be in that $1,500 range."

While the $1500 pricetag may sound heavy, BGR notes that a recent report revealed that the Oculus will require users to have a fairly powerful computer. Thankfully, the $1500 charge will provide users with a powerful enough one to operate the softaware. This also means that users with a powerful enough computer could buy just the headset at a reduced cost.

While it's too early to determine if the Rift will develop a large enough hold in the market, it seems that the Rift is following a path that Google's Project Glass has traversed before. The only question now is whether the Rift will have more success than Project Glass.
