Original Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin will rejoin the band for its upcoming tour with rocker Marilyn Manson this summer, USA Today reports.

"We're thrilled Jimmy's back in the saddle this summer to drive a super high-octane set," singer Billy Corgan said in a press release, according to Pitchfork. "It's nice to see the stars aligning around Smashing Pumpkins anew."

Chamberlin is one of the founding members of the '90s alt-rock band. He played drums for the Smashing Pumpkins since the band's start in 1988 through 2000, and performed on the band's iconic albums "Siamese Dream" and "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness." He then re-joined the group between the years of 2005 and 2009, according to Entertainment Weekly. His drumming technique is unique to the early Smashing Pumpkins material, which is why Corgan reached out to him to join the tour.

"You can't just grab somebody and say, 'Play drums on this Smashing Pumpkins song,'" Corgan told USA Today. "Jimmy's drum parts are so incredibly technical and nuanced that it's a very rare class of people that can step in and play."

Chamberlin, who now owns the Chicago-based tech company LiveOne, told USA Today why he decided to take Corgan up on his offer.

"He asked if there was any way I'd consider coming back for the tour," Chamberlin says. "It's a great opportunity not only to celebrate the music, but to celebrate the friendship and the legacy."

The Smashing Pumpkins and Marilyn Manson summer tour kicks off on July 7 at the Concord Pavilion in Concord, Calif., and wraps up on Aug. 8 in Cincinnati at the Riverbend Music Center.

Corgan announced the reunion on his Twitter account, with the hashtag "#ExpectSonicFireworks."
