With U.S. diplomat John Kerry arriving in Havana, Cuba, in a week's time, tense protests lead to the arrest of more than 90 activists Sunday, according to the AFP.

The purpose of Kerry's visit to Havana Friday is the reopening of the U.S. Embassy, where American flags will once again be raised, according to Fox News.

About 50 of those arrested were part of the Ladies in White dissident group, while the other 40 were a mixture of other activist groups, some of them wearing masks of President Barack Obama's face, according to the AFP.

"It's his fault, what is happening," said Moya, a former political prisoner, about Obama, according to France 24.

The protesters called for human rights throughout Cuba, and many of those protesting blame Obama for the oppressive regime held in place by Raul Castro. They demand he be more adamant about democratic reform, according to Fox News.

The dissidents arrested were held for five hours before being released.

Kerry is the first U.S. secretary of state to visit Cuba sine 1945. And while it's a move that will live on in infamy for Obama's presidency, many hope his visit will also aid in the public's pursuit for human rights, according to the AFP.
