American hip-hop duo Insane Clown Posse has won an appeal to get the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to get rid of the "Juggalos," the name of the duo's followers, from a gang report.
The Detroit-based members Joseph Bruce (aka Violent J) and Joseph Utsler (aka Shaggy 2 Dope) said on Friday that they consider the decision made by an appeals court in Cincinnati, Ohio "a big victory," according to NBC News.
"We're thankful that the Juggalo family will finally get their day in court," the duo said in a statement that was posted on their official website.
"Discrimination against someone based solely upon the type of music they listen to is just flat out wrong and it's time that the legal system acknowledges that."
In a 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment report made by the FBI, the hip-hop duo's "Juggalos" were labeled as a "loosely organized hybrid gang," which the duo claims that it "tarnished reputations and hurt businesses."
The duo, along with four fans who served as plaintiffs, sued for damages against the U.S. Justice Department in January 2014 with the help of the American Civil Liberties Union
They also requested in the lawsuit that that the "Juggalos" be removed because they were more like family than a gang, HNGN previously reported.
