The bloodletting in St. Louis has begun, but Rams head coach Jeff Fisher remains safe.

On Monday, the Rams announced that they had fired offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti. Assistant head coach/offense Rob Boras will take over in his stead, according to team insider Myles Simmons.

"We thank Frank for his hard work and dedication over the last four years," Fisher said in a statement, per Simmons. "We wish him the best moving forward."

Cignetti was the team's quarterbacks coach for the past three seasons before being promoted to coordinator this year.

Under his guidance, the Rams have regressed significantly on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Nick Foles, acquired in trade from the Philadelphia Eagles, has been abysmal and the team is currently averaging just 296.3 yards per game, the 31st mark in the league. They've also scored just 189 points, which is better than only the San Francisco 49ers.

Despite rookie Todd Gurley's explosive efforts and the talent at both the running back and pass-catching positions, the Rams have been consistently abhorrent on offense.

Cignetti's group's most recent effort was a three point game against the vaunted Arizona Cardinals defense, in which Foles threw for just 146 yards and Gurley managed just 41 of his own.

It seems it was the final straw that cost Cignetti his job.
