AMC Theatres has hired Adam Aron as the new CEO, effective next month, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Aron is also the CEO of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, and is the former CEO and co-owner of an NBA team, the Philadelphia 76ers.

AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc., lost its previous CEO Gerry Lopez in August when he entered the hotel business, according to the Kansas City Star. Aron will take up the mantle as CEO beginning on January 4.

AMC Chief Financial Officer Craig Ramsey has been holding the CEO position since Lopez resigned, according to Market Watch. Once Aron takes over, he will return to his position at CFO.

"Adam has demonstrated an ability to target capital investments, implement customer-focused innovations and organize his teams to drive incredible guest experiences that produce exceptional financial returns," said AMC board member Jack Gao, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

AMC has 348 theatre locations across the United States and is currently the second-largest movie theatre company in the country, according to Market Watch.

Aron has had extensive experience in the position as CEO. Not only is he the CEO of Starwood Hotels, and former CEO of the Philadelphia 76ers, but he was also the CEO of Vail Resorts, Norwegian Cruise Lines, and an executive with United Airlines, and Hyatt Hotels, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
