Lemmy Kilmister passed away due to cancer on Dec. 28, 2015, and his funeral was held in Los Angeles at the Forest Law Memorial Cemetery. The private ceremony was live streamed so fans worldwide can celebrate the life of the rock legend. Born Ian Fraser Kilmister in 1945, Kilmister became known in the music industry as the frontman of the English rock band Motörhead.
Kilmister's son Paul Inder was present during the funeral.
"He wasn't a religious man and praying for a miracle was something he would have viewed as a delusional act, but he was profoundly spiritual," Inder said about his father, according to BBC News. "Travel well, my dear father. You are back out on the road for a longest tour to the great gig in the sky."
There were other prominent artists in the music industry who paid their respects during the funeral, such as Slash of Guns 'N Roses, Metallica's Robert Trujillo and Lars Ulrich, and Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters.
Slash recalled the first time he met Lemmy during his eulogy.
"I was really f--ing intimidated, this guy who had this image of being, you know, very hardcore and so-on and so-forth and we, of course, had this hardcore image and I didn't know exactly what to expect," Slash said during the funeral, according to The Mirror. "I walked in and was very graciously accepted by Lemmy and company and we headed off after a session to St Moritz and we've been friends ever since."
Dave Grohl's heartfelt eulogy highlighted how he and Lemmy both loved singer Little Richard and how he was supposed to give the deceased rock star a pamphlet given to him by Little Richard as a gift, according to the Rolling Stone.
