George Clooney and his wife Amal may be a picture perfect couple, but the actor's proposal was anything but perfect. The "Hail, Ceaser!" actor dropped by "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Thursday and told the daytime talk show host that he was ready to marry Amal after only dating a short period of time, but it took her a little long to catch on to things.

"It was one of those horrible moments we didn't talk about it," Clooney admitted to DeGeneres. "It wasn't like 'oh, maybe we should get married' or anything. I plotted the whole thing out. Everything was planned out and I've cooked dinner."

For a special and personal touch, the actor put on his aunt's classic song "Why Shouldn't I" for some background music. While Amal threw hurdles at his proposal plans all evening, Clooney still managed a pretty great proposal.

"Finally I said [that] I blew out the candle and I think the lighter's in the box behind you. And she reaches around, pulls out the box and I've got just the ring sitting in there. She pulls it out and she looks at it and she's like, 'It's a ring,' like as if somebody had left it there some other time," he told DeGeneres. "I got down on my knee and said, 'I couldn't imagine spending the rest of my life without you.' And she kept looking at the ring and she was looking at me and she was like, 'Oh My God.' And we now know, because there was a playlist [and] we know how long it actually took, it was like 25 minutes."
