NBA players across the league have shown their support for fellow player Jason Collins since he publicly announced he's gay on Monday.

NFL receiver Mike Wallace, however, tweeted on Monday that he doesn't "understand" homosexuality.

It's conjectural to assume Wallace's tweets were in any way related to Collins, since the Miami receiver never mentioned the player by name. However Wallace sent his tweet about "guys messing with guys" shortly after Collins' announcement.

The comments weren't malicious, but they stand out against a bevy of support for Collins.

The tweets have since been deleted. Wallace later tried to clarify his position and tweeted, "Never said anything was right or wrong I just said I don't understand!! Deeply sorry for anyone that I offended."

A representative for the Miami Dolphins told TMZ that they have addressed the matter with Wallace.

"Mike's comments do not reflect the views of the Miami Dolphins," the representative said. "We believe in a culture of inclusiveness and respect, and any statements to the contrary are in no way acceptable to our organization."

Los Angeles Lakers' Antwan Jamison, a 15-year NBA veteran, talked on Monday to TMZ. He offered his support to Collins for having the guts to come out and said he would feel comfortable in a locker room with Collins.

"Of course, you're going to have some close-minded people," Jamison said, "let's be realistic."

Collins made national headlines on Monday by becoming the first openly gay male professional athlete. Collins, a 12-year NBA veteran, was selected in 2001 as the 18thh overall pick by the New Jersey Nets. The 34-year-old center played last season for the Washington Wizards.

He is currently a free agent and intends to play next season.
