Sony revealed the details of its long-overdue PS Vita Slim debut in North America through an official blog post, Monday. The slimmer and lighter version of PS Vita will take on the market in time for spring. The handheld gameplay device will not arrive as a standalone product, but will be bundled with the popular first-person shooter game "Borderlands 2" as a Limited Edition package. The bundle will include six DLC packs of the game, PS Vita Slim and an 8GB memory card, all for $199.99.

The Borderlands 2 game with six downloadable content (DLC) packs includes Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty, Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage, Psycho Character Class, Mechromancer Character Class, Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 1 and the Collector's Edition Pack.

According to the company's blog post, the new iteration of PS Vita is 20 percent slimmer and 15-percent lighter with curved edges. But the sharp OLED touch screen is replaced by a new high-definition LCD display, which should still offer a high-quality game play. In addition, the PS Vita Slim has an improved battery with three to five hours of extra game play compared to the current model.

The PS Vita Slim comes only in black, for now. Like its Japan release, it is safe to assume that the PlayStation maker will bring more color options when the standalone handheld is announced in North America.

Sony also noted that the PS Vita Slim worked well with PlayStation now, the company's new cloud-based streaming game service. So gamers have a lot to look forward to in the next few months. The company has also promised to bring more games on PS Vita, which include titles like Minecraft, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD, God of War Collection and The Walking Dead Season 2.
