Russian attack has cut off water to desperate Ukrainians who are running out of food.
Serhiy Haidai, the governor of Luhansk, accused the Kremlin of targeting electrical plants and water pumps to punish Ukraine's people. Officials in Luhansk warned last week that Russian soldiers had purposefully targeted the eastern region's food supplies. They attacked the strategic city of Sievierodonetsk with missiles, destroying all food stores, marketplaces, and businesses.
Russia Targets Supply Sources in Ukraine
The city's 100,000-strong population has shrunk by 17,000 people, who are now depending on handouts. According to Luhansk officials, there were 7,500 power outages in the preceding 24 hours, and nearly the whole region was without water. Russia has denied attacking civilian facilities on several occasions, stating that all of the army's strikes are directed at military objectives.
Last week, the United Nations reported that six million Ukrainians were fighting for safe drinking water daily. According to the report, Russian strikes in besieged regions of the nation have resulted in at least 4.6 million people having 'limited access to water sources.
Water shortages pose serious health hazards, particularly to children and the elderly. Using contaminated water can lead to diarrhea and other dangerous infectious disorders, according to aid organizations.
Last night, a spokesman for Ukraine's armed forces, Alexander Stupun, said that Russian troops were taking food and drink in seized Luhansk. Targeting food and water sources would be against international law and the Geneva Convention, which governs armed combat across the world, according to Daily Mail.
Meanwhile, Russia encouraged the international community not to underestimate the serious risks of nuclear war, which it claimed it intended to reduce, and warned that conventional Western weapons might be used as legitimate targets in eastern Ukraine where hostilities were raging.
Lavrov was asked if the present situation was comparable to the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, a low period in US-Soviet ties. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin offered greater military help to Ukraine during a visit to Kyiv on Sunday. The US State Department issued an emergency declaration on Monday to authorize a potential $165 million munitions shipment to Ukraine.
The cargo might include artillery ammunition for howitzers, tanks, and grenade launchers, according to the Pentagon. The Russian ambassador to the United States warned the US to stop supplies, saying that Western weaponry was inflaming the conflict. Russia's two-month invasion of Ukraine, the worst attack on a European country since 1945, has killed or injured thousands of people, Reuters via MSN reported.
Russia Declares War With NATO
Moscow says it is at war with NATO and claims that Western armaments are escalating the situation in Ukraine. Because of continuing supplies and military supply to Ukraine, Lavrov said on the 61st day of the war that the NATO alliance has positioned itself as in essence engaged in war with Russia.
Lavrov has previously stated that there was a significant chance of the war progressing to nuclear weapons. Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, but its soldiers have now completely retreated from Kyiv and parts of northern Ukraine, returning to Belarus and Russia.
The Russian-controlled port city of Mariupol is now mostly under Russian control, and a large-scale Russian attack in eastern Ukraine has commenced with the goal of "full liberation" of the Donbas, Donetsk and Luhansk's eastern territories, as per Sky News.
