Former United States President Donald Trump made remarks during a rally in Wyoming calling the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Hill insurrection a "hoax" despite the chaotic riot resulting in seven dead amid his attacks on Rep. Liz Cheney.

The Republican businessman's statements came ahead of the state's Aug. 16 primary where Trump has endorsed Harriet Hageman to face Cheney. The latter has been critical of the former president and voted for his impeachment for his role in the insurrection and is part of the House Select Committee investigating the details of the Jan. 6 riot.

Trump Calls' Jan. 6 a "Hoax"

Speaking in front of a crowd in Casper on Saturday evening, Trump said that there was no "RINO in America who has thrown in her lot with the radical left more than Liz Cheney." He said that the Wyoming Republican was one of the country's leading proponents of the insurrection hoax.

Trump said that Cheney has continuously pushed a grotesquely false, fabricated, hysterical partisan narrative regarding the Jan. 6 insurrection. The former president called the use of the word "insurrection" a "lot of cr*p," as per Independent.

The former president also criticized Cheney and her father's hawkish foreign policy impulses, saying that Wyoming deserves a congresswoman who stands up for the people and their values. Trump argued that Cheney spent all of her time going after him in the most vicious way possible.

Before Trump took the stage in Wyoming, Hageman addressed the crowd, warning her supporters that Democrats will "turn the greatest country on Earth into a third-world failure. However, one of the lines that garnered the candidate her biggest applause was when she said that they were fed up with the Jan. 6 commission and the people who think they can gaslight them.

According to Rolling Stone, Trump would sometimes invoke Cheney's Father, Dick, who is a former vice president of the United States, in his verbal attacks. He said that the Cheneys along with George Bush did not even pardon Scooter Libby. He noted that he was the one who gave Libby a pardon.

Deadly Capitol Insurrection

During the rally, Trump also showed a manipulated image that showed the congresswoman with Bush's face. The former president said that the Jan. 6 insurrection "hoax" was another con job similar to the Russia controversy.

He argued that the issue was made up by Hillary Clinton and the Democrats and called it a "total fake story." Trump then continued to claim that he has been investigated more than Al Capone and a list of other infamous criminals in history.

The situation comes as Trump is being accused of inciting the deadly insurrection because he held a rally near the White House prior to the riot. At the time, he urged the crowd to go to the Capitol and "fight like hell" to overturn the election result that showed he lost to Joe Biden.

Trump then ignored calls from colleagues and relatives to publicly call his supporters off as the large group broke into the Capitol and rampaged through corridors, offices, and chambers. They attacked vastly outnumbered police officers and sent Democrats and Republicans fleeing for their lives, The Guardian reported.
