On August 27, 2021, the day she was last seen alive in public, surveillance footage from a Wyoming Whole Foods shop showed Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie perusing the grocery shelves.

On the afternoon of the day Petito's family believes Laundrie killed her, the pair can be seen in the security footage, which Fox News obtained on Monday, walking through the aisles of the supermarket and the parking lot.

Prior to taking his own life a year ago, Laundrie, 23, admitted to killing his girlfriend in a suicide note, as per Fox News. In the footage, Petito's distinctive white Ford Transit van can be seen arriving into the parking lot at roughly 2:11 p.m. - not long after the pair departed from the Merry Piglets Tex-Mex restaurant in Toronto.

Before Laundrie slams the door after exiting the driver's side. He then walks around to the back of the van and pulls a baseball cap out of the storage area. Before Petito apologized, Laundrie departed and returned to the restaurant four times, according to witnesses from last summer. Separately, the restaurant acknowledged that the pair had eaten there that day.

As she walked through the store, Petito could be seen grabbing a few things and packing them into a white duffel bag. The couple may be seen perusing the aisles for almost 15 minutes on the silent internal CCTV footage, according to New York Post.

About 40 minutes after they finish their shopping, the couple is seen getting back into their van and driving onto Highway 89, which goes directly to the campsite in the Bridger-Teton National Forest, where Petito's remains would be discovered three weeks later.

The pair was traveling across the nation in Petito's Ford Transit when the outing occurred, and they were stopped by authorities along the way. Another witness said over the summer that Laundrie swung at Petito with a closed fist during a fight in Wyoming only a few days before she passed away.

On August 12, 2021, Chandler, 26, who asked to only be identified by his first name, told The Sun that he had been stopped at a stop sign when he observed Laundrie strike Petito outside of Moonflower Community Cooperative in Wyoming. He struck Petito with a closed fist, insisting that Laundrie was the one who was being aggressive.

The moment Laundrie softly swung at Petito, smacking her in the face and sending her tumbling back against the white van, he also remembered seeing the pair fighting close to the back passenger-side tire. Moreover, Moab Police, who are being sued for $50 million by Petito's family, caught up with the van life couple and split them apart to find out what had happened.

Bodycam footage shows Petito accusing Laundrie of grabbing her, but she insisted that she slapped him first. The young woman's cheek, which appeared to be slightly bruised, was pointed out by an officer who also asked if he could see the other side of her face.

When the officer reiterated that two independent witnesses had said Laundrie had hit her and that there had been a domestic conflict, she changed her tale and said the "backpack got me" as she had climbed back into the van. After the officers who stopped the couple over failed to recognize that Petito was in a perilous situation, her family has decided to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the Moab Police Department.

Authorities in Moab, a well-known tourist attraction, overlooked warning signs that Petito had been the victim of fraud, according to the $50 million notice of claim.

A notice of claim must be submitted before suing a government institution, and the family claims that the complaint will seek $50 million in damages. On September 19, 2021, Gabby's remains were finally located in a remote area of the Wyoming Bridger-Teton National Forest, Daily Mail reported.
