According to ABC News' latest report, 65 of the 400 mass shootings in the U.S. this 2023 happened in July alone.

This is quite alarming since the numbers provided by the Gun Violence Archive show that the number of mass shootings in the nation is already up by 9% despite having five months to go.

Comparing the mass shootings in 2022, which only had over 360 during the same period, the gun violence this year is much worse.

Aside from mass shootings, the Gun Violence Archive also revealed the number of children (between the ages of 0-11 years old) killed and injured.

Kids killed due to gun violence already reached over 160. Meanwhile, 400 children were injured.
When it comes to teens (between the ages of 12-17 years old), 856 were killed and over 2,300 were injured.

If you are worried and want to keep track of the mass shootings happening across the United States, you can visit the Gun Violence Archive by searching for its official website or clicking this link.

Once you are there, you can see the total mass shootings, where they happened, how many were killed, and how many were injured.

What to Do During Mass Shootings

No one will ever know what will happen during mass shootings. Although this is the case, it is still important to prepare yourself all the time.

Most defense experts suggest relying on the "Run, Hide, Fight" method. But, before you do this, you need to know when should you run, hide, or fight.

When to Run

Running will give you a high chance to distance yourself from criminals during mass shootings. But, you need to ensure that you're running in a zig-zag pattern to make it difficult for them to hit you. This means that running should be done if the mass shooting is happening in an open area.

When to Hide

If the mass shooting is happening inside a building, the best thing you can do is hide. But, you need to ensure that you are hiding behind brick walls, solid steel, and other things that bullets can't easily pass through. If none of these are available, you can combine hiding and running from cover to cover.

When to Fight

In worst-case scenarios, fighting would be your best defense. If the gunman is in front of you, you can tackle him or throw solid objects at him. Remember, when your last option is to fight, your main goal is to disarm the criminal.
