American singer Maren Morris is facing criticism from netizens after complaining about country music being too patriotic. Aside from this, she even said that she'll leave the genre.

According to Fox News' latest report, Morris recently announced that she will no longer write or sing country songs. The 33-year-old musician claimed that this genre is having an existential crisis.

She made this comment as she believes that country music is getting too closely tied to American freedom and patriotism.

Critics, such as Lee Greenwood, bashed her statements, saying that complaining about country music being "too patriotic" means that she doesn't understand this genre at all.

Greenwood said that country music-from name itself-is about loving one's country and fellowmen.

But, the American singer's comment indeed comes during a time when the United States is focusing on politics and experiencing worsening racism, social conflicts, and other societal problems.

Lee Greenwood-the American singer who wrote the article for Fox Explained that since country music reflects the country, the songs under this genre today are just showing what's happening in America.

He provided an example, which is the controversial song of Jason Aldean, "Try That In a Small Town." Greenwood clarified that this song wasn't a racist tome.

Instead, it's about the change in the law enforcement landscape, police defunding, and the mass looting happening in the United States since 2020.
