In a tweet last Tuesday, the Israel Defense Force(IDF) stated "In response to yesterday's launches toward Israeli territory, the IDF struck military infrastructure belonging to the Syrian army. IDF fighter jets also struck Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure in Lebanon. The IDF will continue to operate against any threat to Israel's sovereignty".

In a report from Aljazeera, they stated "What Israel is facing at the moment is fighters in various countries in the region that are mostly backed by Iran". The report continued to reveal that Syria and Iran maintain a regional alliance, with President Bashar al-Assad receiving significant support from Tehran during the Syrian war. Hezbollah, backed by Iran since its establishment in 1982, has evolved into a formidable entity within Lebanon and has also supported Hamas in Gaza.

Additionally, it was revealed by Reuters that a Syrian military intelligence officer and a commander in the regional alliance supporting Damascus stated that Israel has altered its strategies in response to the October 7 incursion by Hamas fighters into Israeli territory and the subsequent Israeli bombing campaigns in Gaza and Lebanon.

The report continues to explain that Israel departed from the previously observed "rules of the game" in its strikes in Syria, and appeared to be "less cautious" about causing significant casualties to Hezbollah in the region. The commander went on to say, "They used to fire warning shots - they'd hit near the truck, our guys would get out of the truck, and then they'd hit the truck". He then went on to reveal that, "Now that's over. Israel is now unleashing deadlier, more frequent air raids against Iranian arms transfers and air defence systems in Syria. They bomb everyone directly. They bomb to kill.

As an increasing amount of relevant news enters the media cycle, it is clear that this conflict will be a big focus in 2024 and beyond. South Africa has launched a genocide against Israel on top of Israel stating that Iran helped Hamas develop new weapons. As well as trade routes in the Red Sea also facing interruptions, it seems that more work will need to be done if there is to be a peaceful resolution to this expanding conflict.
