Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder — but this dog's utter repulsiveness can no longer be denied.

An 8-year-old Pekingese named Wild Thang won the dubious distinction of coming in No. 1 at the annual World's Ugliest Dog contest.

The event was held Friday at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California. Wild Thang previously finished in second place in three of four tries.

"The fact that he had been competing for five times and only came in second is kind of like 'the bridesmaid and never the bride,'" Fiona Ma, state treasurer and a contest judge, quipped to the Associated Press.

Ma said the pooch's persistence "really tugged at our heartstrings that he deserved to win."

Wild Thang's distinctive look includes extra-long, frizzy fur that Ma said has never been cut.

The dog also has a perpetually lolling tongue and a front leg that paddles 24/7 due to a case of distemper it contracted as a puppy, according to a bio posted on the fair's website.

Owner Ann Lewis of north Bend, Oregon, was given a large trophy and a $5,000 check, according to NBC's "Today" show.
