A man was charged Monday after a gruesome discovery of the remains of two men were found in suitcases, the London Metropolitan Police in Bristol said.

Yostin Andres Mosquera, 34, faces two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of 62-year-old Albert Alfonso and 71-year-old Paul Longworth.

They were previously a couple but were still living together at a home in Shepard's Bush, police said.

Mosquera had been staying with them for a short time.

Their remains were found in two suitcases near a suspension bridge in Bristol, the Independent reported. Other parts of their remains were found in their home.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine said, " "My thoughts are first and foremost with Albert and Paul's loved ones who are coming to terms with this terrible news."

He added, "I know that this awful incident will cause concern not just among residents in Shepherds Bush but in the wider LGBTQ+ community across London."

He said the investigation is ongoing but the evidence gathered so far does not suggest there was a homophobic motive in this case.

Valentine added that officers are following national guidelines and have categorized the incident as a hate crime.

"Officers have worked with the pan-London LGBTQ+ Independent Advisory Group (IAG) since the identity of the two victims and their sexuality was established. Their advice, expertise, and support for the investigation has been extremely valuable," stated Valentine.

Mosquera is due back in court on July 17.
