Samsung is lending a helping hand to the visually impaired individuals by offering the new Samsung Core with an ultrasonic case that detects a nearby object and alerts its owners.

Samsung, one of the biggest smartphone makers around the world, is helping the blind with a new line of high-tech accessories. The tech giant built the new assistive technology accessories for the Samsung Galaxy Core Advance with clever features like detecting nearby objects. In a press release, Friday, Samsung said the new Ultrasonic Cover, Optical Scan Stand and Voice Label will take the Galaxy Core Advance features to a new level. The company designed these accessories with special needs customers in mind.

The Galaxy Core Advance comfortably sits inside an Ultrasonic Cover that helps owners detect nearby objects. The new accessory sends high-frequency sound waves in the air and waits for them to bounce back, similar to how bats use ultrasound waves during flight. If there are any objects within two meters range, the cover will send an alert through vibration or text-to-speech notification.

The Ultrasonic cover is helpful for visually impaired individuals in unfamiliar environments. Adding to the special assistance, Samsung also introduced an Optical Scan Stand. As the name suggests, it is a stand that holds the Galaxy Core smartphone and automatically reads whatever text is placed below. The stand detects printed material and launches a phone app that starts scanning text and reads it loud to the user.

Finally, Samsung introduced a set of NFC-triggered voice labels to tag important information for different objects. "With NFC technology enabling a seamless connection to their smartphones, users can record, stop and access their notes," Samsung said. "This feature can also help a user distinguish how to use electronics by allowing them to record a short explanation."

In addition to these new accessories, the Galaxy Core Advance features the company's core functions and signature apps, such as S Voice, S Translator, Sound & Shot, Group Play and Easy Mode. To simplify access to different apps in the phone, Samsung also integrated Light Sensing App, Instant Voice Recorder and Voice Guided Camera. Other features such as a 4.7-inch display with 5-megapixel camera, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage and 1.2 Dual Core Krait processor, remain standard.
