PetMatch helps you search for a closest lookalike of your old pet .

Superfish, a pioneer in visual search technology, is helping users find a replacement for an old pet. The startup has developed a new app, PetMatch that uses the company's patented visual search technology to help people find local adoptable pets by matching them with the looks of an old pet.

PetMatch, the iOS mobile application, uses image recognition to find a pet animal in your area that is up for adoption and more importantly resembles the one in any given picture. Users of the app must first upload a photo of a dog or a cat or use any picture from the app's gallery to run a search through the database. PetMatch scans through all adoption agencies tied up with the company to retrieve the relevant information.

"Our vision is that visual search will allow people to use any picture as a starting point in their search to find exactly what they are looking for--in real time. PetMatch is a great example of the power of visual search and an important step in that direction," Adi Pinhas, CEO and Founder of Superfish, said in a press release published by Market Watch. "We wanted to help speed up the pet adoption process, cutting through the clutter of information on the web, and ultimately make the experience more efficient and more fun."

Superfish launched the new app in conjunction with National Pet Month. The app is only available for searches in the U.S. and according to Mashable, after running the app through a couple of searches, it was able to pull up results of identical pets in shelter homes.

The app is available for download for free in the iTunes App Store.
