Daughtry frontman Chris Daughtry is apologizing after refusing to perform a patriotic song in honor of D-Day during an appearance on FOX News "Fox & Friends" last week.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the former "American Idol" contestant and his band performed on Friday as part of "Fox & Friends All-American Summer Concert Series." However, when asked if the band would sing a patriotic song in honor of D-Day - the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings on June 6 - he denied.

"I'm off the clock," he said. "I'm going to watch 'y'all."

The rocker walked off the stage, leaving the show's host to sing with the help of the audience. Daughtry's actions led to a Twitter backlash with fans pointing out that U.S. soldiers "didn't go off the clock" on D-Day.

The response prompted the "Waiting for Superman" singer explain himself in a video posted on the group's website. Daughtry explained that he had a moment of bad judgment and admitted to being "embarrassed" and "ashamed" about his actions.

"It was absolutely disrespectful," he said. "Poor choice of words, terrible judgment on my part.... I wish that I could have pulled it together."

He added, "What I do is minuscule in comparison [to troops and veterans], and I will never live up to what they did for our country. Fortunately, our troops have never said, 'I am off the clock' when they had to do what they had to do. Everyone has a moment in their life that they regret very deeply, and this is at the top of my list. It hurts my heart to know that I have disrespected the men and women fighting every day. I apologize for offending any of our troops, any of the men and women who have served past or present. I'm sorry."

Daughtry posted a tweet - linking to the video - which read, "There aren't enough characters on twitter to express all I need to say."
