Mexico earned a spot in the round of 16 after winning two matches and drawing one after barely creeping into qualification for the World Cup.

"I'm really happy and also particularly pleased about how the whole team played," Mexico's Andres Guardado said, via FIFA.com. "All the players are fully committed and we all share the same objective. ... We not only made it through the group phase, we did it deservedly and in style, in a way we're pleased with and which gives us a lot of confidence.

"Even so, despite what we've done, we've not achieved anything tangible just yet and our mission is by no means accomplished."

Mexico plays a Netherlands squad that has won all three of their matches heading into the knockout round.

"Yes, it's going to be a tough match," Guardado acknowledged. "We've already played three difficult games, particularly against Brazil, another one of the favourites. But we're not going to lower our expectations - we're still hoping to make Mexican football history."

Netherlands, meanwhile, have been explosive on offense, scoring 10 goals en route to the round of 16.

"When you win, the atmosphere is always fantastic," Netherlands midfielder Wesley Sneijder said. "We were in a very tough group and before the tournament a lot of people were saying that we didn't stand much of a chance of progressing. But we always believed and [just before the World Cup] we started to play a new system.

"From that, the confidence began to grow more and more."
