One of the greatest heroes in New York Giants history, David Tyree, is returning to the team's organization. However, this time he won't be making spectacular catches in the Super Bowl; he'll be working an office job.

On Tuesday morning the New York Giants announced that David Tyree will become the organization's new Director of Player Development. Former Giants running back Charles Way previously held the position, but he recently became the head of the NFL's Player Engagement Department. Tyree spent the last two years working for the NFL in player engagement and development and will now handle programs focusing on career transition, player assistance, and training and development.

Tyree was last with the Giants from 2003 to 2008 where he was a wide receiver and special teams player. He's most famous for his performance in Super Bowl 42 against the 18-0 New England Patriots where he recorded three receptions for 43 yards and a touchdown, including a one-handed 33-yard catch he pinned to his helmet on third down. With under a minute left in the game, the reception set up
Eli Manning's 13-yard touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress and sealed the 17-14 victory.

"I'm overwhelmed with joy," said Tyree, in this Giants.com article. "I guess you could say it's a second homecoming. I'm grateful to have an experience with Charles Way, seeing his growth, his maturity as a professional. It even, to some degree, has impacted my life personally as a professional."

Although Tyree is most known for 'The Catch' in Super Bowl 42, he only compiled 54 receptions in his tenure as a New York Giant. He was most remembered for his contributions on special teams that earned him a Pro-Bowl selection in 2005 and two NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors. The Giants then released Tyree in 2009 and he was signed by the Baltimore Ravens, but he retired after the season ended.

The New York Giants began training camp on Monday, so Tyree will be getting a timely start with his former team. The team selected six new players in the draft and added 25 free agents in the offseason, so Tyree will be working with a lot of new faces as the Director of Player Development. Training camp is currently being held at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center at the MetLife Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey. You can view the practice schedule on the Giants website.
