Taylor Swift appeared for less than a second in the previous trailers for "The Giver." A new clip shows Swift and her character both share natural musical talents.
Swift plays Rosemary, the previous Receiver of Memory. The Receiver holds all the memories before society changed to Sameness, a state of living with no emotions. Rosemary no longer exists, only in The Giver's (Jeff Bridges) memories.
"She was in training only two short months," The Giver tells the new Receiver, Jonas (Brenton Thwaites). "And like you, she wanted to experience everything."
Given the ominous tone of his voice, Rosemary may have wanted to experience too much.
In the memory, Rosemary discovers the piano and the music she makes as her fingers dance across the keys. "Watch how my fingers move," she sings to The Giver.
Swift is slowly becoming a dual singing-acting performer. Her previous credits include movies "Valentine's Day" and "The Lorax," and TV shows "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and "New Girl." She also gave a memorable performance as host for Saturday Night Live in 2009.
Swift will use those comedic skills in an upcoming sketch for "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." The late night program released a sneak peek video of Swift rehearsing for the show's popular "Ew" skit. Swift is almost unrecognizable, wearing braces and large red-rimmed glasses. The sketch will air on Aug. 13 when she sits down with Fallon to promote The Giver.
The "Red" singer isn't the only musician making the transition to the big screen this year. Adam Levine co-starred in this summer indie film Begin Again with Keira Knightly. Lady Gaga is set to appear in Sin City: A Dame to Kill, with Jessica Alba and Josh Brolin later this month.
"The Giver" premieres on Aug. 15 and stars Bridges, Thwaites, Meryl Streep, Katie Holmes and Odeya Rush. The movie is based on Lois Lowry's 1993 award-winning novel.
