It appears that Marvel's Master of the Mystic Arts, Dr. Stephen Strange, is a few steps closer to joining his comic book brethren on the big screen.

Dr. Strange made his first appearance in the Marvel Universe over 50 years ago, created by legends Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Strange is arrogant surgeon who learns the error of his ways after a personal tragedy shatters his life. He goes on to become a pupil of The Ancient One, and accepts his mantle as "the master of the mystical arts."

According to an article over at FirstShowing.net, Marvel Studios is currently in negotiations with Pinewood-Shepperton Studios in London to shoot the Dr. Strange film starting in May 2015. This would line the film up for a July 2016 release date ... if they hold true to their current slate and schedule.

The production has yet to cast an actor to cast a man for the leading role of the Sorcerer Supreme, but Joaquin Phoenix is rumored to be the favorite for the role. Previously mentioned candidates to play the good doctor are Benedict Cumberbatch and Jack Huston. (For my money, it's hard not to envision Cumberbatch in the role...but what do I know?)

Director Scott Derrickson (Sinister) will helm the film from script penned by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus).

Representatives from neither Marvel nor Pinewood have commented on this information as of yet.

Stay tuned.
