With the premiere of iOS 8, Apple's latest mobile operating system, the company will finally let customers know which applications are draining the battery life of their devices, The Daily Mail reported on Sunday.

The new operating system gives users a display screen that allows them to see what apps they have open and how much power those apps are requiring on their device.

The iOS 8 display will rank the percentage of power each app is using from highest to lowest. This then allows users to adjust their phone's settings to optimize the battery life.

To find the display screen, open settings. Then navigate to general, usage and battery life. After a few minutes, the battery usage section will be brought up and it will show the apps that are zapping the most energy, according to Tech Republic.

Facebook is said to be one of the biggest offenders of battery life, according to Trusted Reviews.

If a user doesn't need the app, one way to encourage long battery life is to delete the app from the phone. One can also force close apps like navigation and streaming audio apps so they're not fetching content off the network.

Users should only force close apps that aren't going to be opened again. It's not a good idea to force close every app on the phone because that might have the opposite effect on battery life. Apple iOS does take care of suspending some apps in the background, iPhone Hacks reported.

Apple's iPhone 6 sold a record-breaking four million units in just the first 24 hours of pre-order sales. That number doubles the company's previous pre-order record of two million devices for the iPhone 5 back in 2012.
