There's a reason people choose their wedding dates.

Newlywed Ashley Tisdale married musician Christopher French on Monday Sept. 8 in a secret ceremony in Los Angeles - but why on a Monday?

The 29-year-old former "High School Musical" star phoned in to Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show Tuesday explaining one of the reasons behind her unusual wedding date.

"It definitely was for two reasons," she said. "The 8th was our anniversary so I wanted to land on an 8th, and thankfully it landed on a Monday in September. Also, I figured it was a good idea, because I figured out like, 'Oh, I don't think anybody would figure this one out,' and that was to protect the privacy of it."

After her special day, Tisdale, who recently returned from a tropical honeymoon in Bora Bora, took to Twitter and Instagram to break the news of her nuptials and share a few pictures.

In several photos posted on social media, Tisdale is seen wearing a white Monique Lhuillier gown and a flower crown, while her now-husband sported a black John Varvatos suit.

"I'm very excited," Tisdale told CBS News about being married. "I'm very happy. It's been something that you prepare for a year. I had to be really quiet about it because I wanted to make sure it was super quiet and intimate. The fact that nobody knew we got married was unbelievable!"

Adding: "It felt like I was married before or something - I guess because we act that way. It definitely feels amazing, It feels different but doesn't. It's like I married my best friend. It's the best feeling in the world. This relationship was definitely different from any other relationship I ever had...Nothing is forced. It's the best feeling ever."

The couple began dating in December 2012 and got engaged in August 2013 on the 103rd floor of the Empire State Building. French proposed to Tisdale with a cushion-cut diamond ring.
