A strong life lesson was taught in a Canadian church last weekend, but it wasn't by the priest.

A couple entered St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church on Saturday and showed everyone why it is inappropriate to be completely inebriated, especially in a holy establishment.

The 26-year-old man, whose name was not released, was yelling and cursing at his girlfriend when they arrived at the building.

After already causing a scene, the man decided it was time for a bath, and climbed into the large basin of holy water and began washing his body, Click on Detroit reported.

The couple was kicked out of the church - but not for long.

The man returned (this time topless) for revenge for being kicked out, and tried to set the building on fire by "taking a glass of wine that was sitting beside a chalice, pouring it over a piece of cloth and using a lighter to try to light it," according to Click on Detroit.

He also damaged religious items, threw holy bread on the floor and stole a rosary necklace.

When police arrived, the man was found shirtless and wearing one of the church's rosaries around his neck. He was "in an intoxicated state," CBC reported.

The man is being charged with mischief under $5,000, arson and damage to property, two counts of failing to comply with his probation, theft under $5,000 and possession under $5,000.
