Singer and philanthropist Bono had a bit of a fright on Wednesday when the door of his private jet came off while the plane was in the air.

Bono, née Paul David Hewson, and four of his friends were flying from his hometown of Dublin to Berlin when the Learjet 60 lost its door, according to NBC News. The jet was 12,000 to 15,000 feet above the ground.

Germout Freitag, a spokesman for the German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation, said the plane landed safely and the two pilots only found out about the missing door after they were on the ground, according to NBC News.

The pilots told investigators that they heard a rumble during a right-hand turn on approach, but there was no change in the jet's performance, according to NBC News.

The door is still missing. "The aircraft and its rear door are painted black, so the search in the wooded area will be difficult," Freitag said, according to NBC News.

There has been no official statement from Bono or U2.
