It was bound to happen. Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia crossed paths on Monday at Merion Golf Club. They had a brief exchange on the driving range and shook hands, ESPN reports.

Although it was a short trade of words and a quick handshake, it's a step toward reconciliation. Monday was the first time the two golfers have been face to face since Garcia made his racial "fried chicken" remark about Woods last month. Both golfers seemingly want to move past the feud and focus on golf.

Woods declined to reveal the details of his exchange with Garcia. When asked by reporters on Monday about it, Woods said "I'm not going there" and referred to Tuesday's upcoming news conference.

Garcia is also scheduled to speak with reporters on Tuesday.

He told reporters three weeks ago at the BMW Championship that he wanted to personally apologize to Woods.

"We talked to his manager and asked him if he wanted us to call Tiger, or wait for Merion and do it there face to face," Garcia said. "And they said they would rather do it there. There's nothing we can do, so we'll wait until we get there and we'll talk."

The U.S. Open begins on Jan. 13 at Merion Golf Club. While Woods avoided getting paired with Garcia during the first two rounds of the tournament, there's a possibility they could be paired in the later rounds.
