The woman who was fatally shot in a Nordstrom store on Black Friday in downtown Chicago has been identified.

Nadia Ezaldein was shot while working in the cosmetics section at Nordstrom as a seasonal worker on Black Friday, which was also her 22nd birthday. The shooter was her 31-year-old ex-boyfriend Marcus Dee. After he shot her, he then turned the gun on himself.

Nordstrom issued the following statement through its Facebook page:

Ezaldein was supposed to attend a surprise birthday party that her friends and family had planned for her after she finished her shift at the retailer on the busiest shopping day of the year.

Apparently, Dee had been tormenting the family for years since his break up with Ezaldein.

Family told the Chicago Tribune that Ezaldein and Dee began dating in August 2012 when the couple met through Ezaldein's roommate. Dee was allegedly abusive throughout the entire relationship, and family said the relationship ended when Dee had previously held a hand gun inside of the victim's mouth.

Ezaldein attempted to file an order of protection, but her family told Chicago Tribune she stopped once he threatened to kill himself. She was scared of him because his parents are police officers and she thought they could "cover it up," explained her sister.

Ezaldein was put on life support after the shooting before she died in the hospital.
