Sony is launching a new grey limited edition PlayStation 4 system as a way to celebrate the PlayStation video game console's 20th birthday. In addition to the grey color, the system is decorated with the classic button symbols(Square, X, Circle and Triangle) that have been with Playstation since Day 1.

The original PlayStation made its debut in Japan on Dec. 3, 1994 as a competitor for the Nintendo 64 and the Sega Saturn, and became available in the U.S. and Europe in September 1995, according to CNET.

The Japanese tech giant's console became the first video game console to sell 100 million units, achieving this feat with games like Wipeout, Crash Bandicoot and Tekken.

Sony designed the new PS4 to run on an x86 processor and an enhanced PC GPU, as well as to have 8GB of high-speed unified memory and a new and improved DualShock 4 controller, PC Magazine reported. The controller will be included in the 20th Anniversary Edition Pack in "original grey," along with a camera, also in "original grey."

The introduction of the grey PS4 follows just over a year after the original version of the console was released and sold 2.1 million units worldwide.

"The mid-90s were an exciting time for game developers, driven by the explosion of powerful but affordable 3D graphics rendering hardware and the birth of many young and adventurous development studios," Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios, wrote in a blog post. "The original PlayStation was meant to embody that sense of adventure and discovery, that sense that anything was possible."

Sony is limited to only 12,300 units of the grey PS4 worldwide, which are available for $499 in the U.S., CNET reported. The limited-edition console is also available in Japan for 49,800 yen and in Europe for €399. In Japan, the console will be available tonight (Dec. 3) and will be available in the U.S. on Dec. 6.
